What are the chances of dying in a car crash compared to a air plane?

Wondering since I'm going on a plane tomorrow and have a phobia of flying. What are the chances of dying in a car crash compared to a air plane? It has been reported that the odds of being involved in an automobile accident are higher compared to those of an airplane accident. What are the chances of dying in a car crash compared to a air plane?
idk but i was told i'm gunna die in a car crashWhat are the chances of dying in a car crash compared to a air plane? In general, flying is a considerably safer way to travel on a per-mile basis. What are the chances of dying in a car crash compared to a air plane?
There are definitely more car crashes than airplane crashes. There are a lot more cars on the road than there are planes in the sky. The difference is that when a plane crashes, there are more lives lost than in an automobile. Personally, I've been on about 10 flights without an airplane crash. I don't know how many times I've been in a car, but I've been in one car accident already (and I'm just a kid). What are the chances of dying in a car crash compared to a air plane?People die in car crashes every day. It is a rare day when anyone dies in an airplane crash.
HELLO,

I used to be a flight attendant and I have been told that the chances of getting into a car crash are 200 times more likely than getting into one on an air craft! What are the chances of dying in a car crash compared to a air plane?
Whats the difference? We are here for a good time not a long time.
very high. Two reasons:1) cars are individual vehicles controlled by non-professionals with relatively little training compared to what is required for pilots. 2) with millions of cars on the very limited road area that our society builds (thank goodness for budget limitations or we would have paved over everything to feed this car obsession) compared with just hundreds of airplanes in the vast space from 0-50,000 feet altitude, it is obvious why flying is safer.

if the media published single paragraph articles or 1 minute clips of every car accident that occurs. you would hear an hour of tv coverage everyday of nothing but car crashes. Whoa.

it would be a great public service, because we would all be totally terrified of driving.

instead, they publish lengthy coverage of air crashes which happen just occasionally but kill 10's to hundreds each time. more spectacular, feeding our blood-lust, but COMPLETELY UNREPRESENTATIVE OF REALITY!

Stop driving and ride a bike or walk or take a bus. What are the chances of dying in a car crash compared to a air plane?
Air travel is the safest kind of travel, trust me I have flown nearly everyday for 18 years, and I haven't gone down once.
You will be safe. My daughter travels weekly to her jobs all over the world for the last five years and has had no problems. Have a great flight!
dont worry, planes are statiscically safer then driving. have a nice flight!
The facts are the following: many more people die in auto accidents each year in the United States (about 40,000) than in airplane crashes (less than 1,000). But that certainly doesn鈥檛 answer the question by itself. People spend a lot less time in airplanes than in cars, on average. In fact, it turns out that your risk of death per hour is about the same in a car as in a plane.
In the US, each year there are about 40,000 deaths per year in automobile accidents vs. about 200 in air transport. To put this in perspective, the chance of dying in an automobile accident is about 1000 times more than

winning a typical state lottery in a year.
sit nearer the back, tis the last bit to hit the ground from the air
The risk of dying in a car crash is GREATER than an airplane.

Why does a plane crash if it loses pressurization?

I saw in a movie/tv show where someone had a gun in a plane an someone said if you shoot it and it pierces the cabin, it will lose pressurization and then crash. Sometimes I see the plan go into a steep dive or something. What is the reason that a plane would crash if there is a sudden loss of pressure? Why does a plane crash if it loses pressurization? If it is explosive/catastrophic decompression, bulkheads in the aircraft can be deformed causing to controls to be jammed and rendered inoperative. If the rear pressure bulkhead fails it can actually blow parts of the tail off the aircraft. This happened to a JAL 747.Why does a plane crash if it loses pressurization?
Pray for forgiveness, because death is near. In high altitudes, you will pass out in 15 seconds or less because of oxygen deprivation, lack of awareness, lightheadedness, euphoria, and then you black out...

Why does a plane crash if it loses pressurization?depressurization doesnt usually cause crashes.

if the aircraft suffers sudden depressurization, the pilots will initiate an emergency decent to 10,000ft. this decent is very steep and can be very violent - but it is necessary for the survival of the passengers and crew.

depressurization at altitudes above 10,000ft means that the atmosphere is thinner and oxygen content of the air is very low, too low to sustain life. this is why (and the only reason) oxygen masks deploy. Also to note, when sudden loss of cabin pressure occurs, a fog-like mist will form, making it hard to see.

sudden depressurization can be violent in itself, but definitely doesnt cause an aircraft to crash. other factors are usually involved, like the largest loss of passengers lives in aviation history: the JAL123 crash. the aircraft, a 747, suffered sudden depressurisation due to a weak rear cabin bulkhead which resulted in the entire vertical stabiliser seperating from the aircraft tail and disabling the flight controls to the elevators.

all pressurised aircraft have small pressure leaks (probably in total the size of a bullet hole), but they are compensated via the environmental control system bleeding more air from the engine into the air conditioning. Why does a plane crash if it loses pressurization?
Losing pressure in an airplane does not cause it to crash. Bullet holes will cause a small leak but usually if an airplane loses pressure it is due to a malfunctioning pressurization valve or a leaking door seal. All that happens is the pilot will get a warning light and will begin to descend to a lower altitude. In the meantime the oxygen masks will deploy so the passengers can breath until the airplane reaches 10,000 ft.

Steep dives, people getting sucked out the windows, magazines flying all over the cabin are all Hollywood nonsense. If you're interested in an actual number the difference between the pressure in an airplane at 35,000 feet and outside is about 7psi. If your car had 7 psi in a tire you'd think it was flat. 7 psi is not going to make the airplane explode. Why does a plane crash if it loses pressurization?A loss of pressurization will NOT cause a crash.

If a pressurized airplane is depressurized, oxygen masks will automatically deploy in the cabin so that passengers can breathe easily despite the high altitude of the airplane. At the same time, pilots will quickly descend the airplane to a lower altitude at which oxygen masks won't be necessary. The pilots will then plan a landing at the first opportunity. However, there will be no crash.

Depressurization doesn't hurt the airplane, it just makes it necessary for everyone inside to breathe oxygen from a mask, unless the airplane is already quite low in altitude, in which case people can breathe easily even if the cabin is depressurized.

In a famous accident, a 737 depressurized violently when the entire roof of the cabin tore away in mid-flight. The airplane was not otherwise harmed, and the pilots brought it in for a landing with no trouble. Everyone survived, except for a flight attendant who was standing in the aisle when the roof tore away鈥攕he was sucked out of the airplane and was never found. For the full story, see:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aloha_Airli鈥?/a>

In the early days of jets, one British jet airliner had a problem that caused it to explode in mid-flight, killing everyone on board, and several aircraft were lost that way. But that was half a century ago, and it doesn't happen now.

Finally, if you shoot a hole in the wall of an airplane, it will only depressurize slowly, if at all, and there will be no crash. A large explosion might blow away enough of cabin to produce explosive decompression, but even that would not necessarily cause a crash. The airplane doesn't have to be pressurized in order to fly.
Nope... airplanes have about thirty gun sized holes, not visible on it. That is so that they can have air constantly moving in and out. The pilot can agjust the oppening of those. "Those are what cause aircraft to sink in water". Now a gun shot would cause a rush of air... but not significant. Your ears would be a little eirritated, but not really. You would dive because the pilot wants to get you from 30,000ft to a breathable 8,000 feet. They crash sometimes because debris hits engines and the fire occurs. Why does a plane crash if it loses pressurization?
The decompression (fast and powerful) will tear the plane apart destroying vital instruments causing the plan to crash.

Put a bullet hole in the cabin won't do a thing, the plane will still fly normally, its only if there is a hole which ripes through the whole plane the aircraft crashes.
Steep dives are not nonsense.

In the event of depressurisation for any reason the pilot had to get down to below 10000 feet so there is enough oxygen in the air to breath. the supply for the overhead drop down masks does not last very long. Why does a plane crash if it loses pressurization?
The rapid depressurization will cause the structure to fail and the passengers will experience hypoxia which is basically lack of oxygen. The fuselage is not Designed to handle extreme pressure differential. A difference of 10 psi is even dangerous
Don't believe everything you see in the movies or on TV. In real life, if the plane lost pressurization, the pilots would land at the nearest suitable airport.
FUN FACT: All Boeing aircraft are designed to have a minimum of 8 windows blown out before losing any amount of pressure. Now you know!
coz it can't fly

Why does it seem like their is always plane crashes with the smaller planes?

There seems to have been a lot of plane crashes lately and most of them seem to be the smaller planes and not the commercial ones. Why is that? Are the commercial planes safer? Do they have more experienced pilots? Just curiousWhy does it seem like their is always plane crashes with the smaller planes? You answered your own question! General aviation crashes are more frequent because that's what pilots use to build up their hours. The small plane crash yesterday was probably 99% weight and balance related. When you stick 13 people on a plane with only room for 10, then luggage, you are putting yourself in an akward situation. As the fuel burned off, the center of gravity shifted and that probably caused the fatal spin short of the runway. Especially when you mix that with the slow speed of landing.

Anyways, there are less commercial incidents because obviously the pilots are better trained. They have thousands of hours of experience. They train rigorously in flight simulators and are prepared for almost anything. The planes are maintained to the highest standards. Some general aviation planes are homebuilt and have no FAA registrations! Why does it seem like their is always plane crashes with the smaller planes?Airplane crashes get lots of attention from the media, and we seem to remember them more because of the attention.

Commercial aircraft have more experienced pilots and have more safety features and redundant systems.

Is it safe to fly on a plane with low blood pressure?

Im going to america next year and ive always had really low blood pressure, what would the effects of flying on a plane be?

Is it ok to fly with low blood pressure? Is it safe to fly on a plane with low blood pressure?Yes, it's safe to fly with low blood pressure if the hypotension does not normally produce any symptoms for you.

Asymptomatic hypotension can make you slightly more susceptible to the effects of changes in cabin pressure, but not enough to present any risk.

If you regularly experience symptoms from your hypotension (syncope, etc.), ask your doctor about it before flying. Is it safe to fly on a plane with low blood pressure?OMG, no! a plane with low blood pressure is at risk of fainting, especially at altitudes over 10 feet. if a plane faints in mid-flight it can plummet. that will give you high blood pressure and put you at greater risk for stroke and heart attack. have the plane put on a proper diet and hydrated

Do you feel safe flying after all the plane accidents lately?

This is the 4th plane accident in 6 weeks.

    We have:

-the plane in NY which landed in Hudsons Bay

-the plane in Buffalo which killed everyone

-the plane that landed in Amsterdam killing 9 from Turley

-and now an emergency landing in Romania

I mean, I feel nervous flying now and Im a frequent flyer. Do you feel nervous too? Whats going on here?Do you feel safe flying after all the plane accidents lately?Of course i feel safe flying at this time, this is because after these accidents, the airlines/companies spend more time doing regular checks on the planes. I mean if you look at the chances of an accident it is like one in about a million, or something? These aircraft must have been unlucky. These accidents do not happen very often at all so don't panic.Do you feel safe flying after all the plane accidents lately?

The situation has not changed, therefore I still feel safe.

I don't watch the news, as it has nothing to do with reality, it is exceedingly pessimistic, and it is deliberately designed to induce stress.
My daddy, apilot always says he is in twenty times the danger just driving to the airport !!!!!!!!!Do you feel safe flying after all the plane accidents lately?
Of course. I'm always a little nervous before I go on a plane, but I feel safe. I've been on a plane three times and the first time was nothing, because I was six and it was my first trip to Disney World and I was too excited to worry about anything. The second time was a little scary. The third time was just this January and I nearly started bowling my eyes out in the air port, because I was so scared, because I hate taking off, but once I got up in the air and relaxed I was fine. So, I guess for me it's not really the crashing part that scares me, it's just the feeling of going up.

If I want to see anything in my life I'm going to have to go on a plane. So, I'm going to take my chances and not be afraid:).

What should i take on a long plane ride to Italy?

Im leaving soon and im a 14 year old girl going to italy for a week and a wedding. My mom will usually take me out to get some stuff for the flight but what are your ideas??? lucky you 14 years old and business class . wowWhat should i take on a long plane ride to Italy?
You should try to sleep as much as possible on the outbound flight - it will help you adjust to the time change. There will be inflight movies but you can also take something to read, listen to etc. What should i take on a long plane ride to Italy?Olive Garden! lol I'm bored, and now jealous. haha. I like those puzzle books they sell at the airports that have random brain teasers or dumb little things to do to pass the time. But obviously that won't last you the entire flight. Hope I helped somewhat though. What should i take on a long plane ride to Italy?
maybe a book or a iPod. but u probably wont need those. thew will provide u with a personal tv on the back of the seat in front of u were u can watch movies listen 2 music and play gamesWhat should i take on a long plane ride to Italy? Some music like an Ipod but if you don't have one, if your cell phone has an MP3 player on it, just put it on Airplane Mode so it doesn't send out signals and listen to that. I would sleep most of the time (I am going to Italy in Aug. so this is my plan) so I guess take something to make you drowsy. You can also buy one of those individual small board games or even an interesting book to read.

Is it possible that God exists outside of time and space in a higher plane of existence?

I believe in the concept of parallel worlds and multi-verses. Is it possible that the reason why we as humans cannot physically interact with Him is because He exists in a higher plane of existence that unfathomable to any mortal? Is it possible that God exists outside of time and space in a higher plane of existence? Many believe we can interact with God, and he manifests himself all about us. What I don't understand is the visceral hatred some people manifest when you mention the word God. Here is a scientific truism; "There is a principal which is a bar against all information, which is proof against all arguments and which cannot fail to keep a man in everlasting ignorance, that principal is contempt prior to investigation."Is it possible that God exists outside of time and space in a higher plane of existence?
Is it possible that Santa Claus really does have reindeer that fly?

Edit: We haven't established the existence of God or of multiverses. Speculation about the interaction between these two would be pretty much blue-skying, and have as much value as wondering about whether Santa's reindeer are equipped with high-tech jet packs. Is it possible that God exists outside of time and space in a higher plane of existence?Of course it is possible. But there is absolutely no reason to think that it's reality. Is it possible that God exists outside of time and space in a higher plane of existence?
    A) science has NOTHING to say about god or where he is

    2) there is no god, the question is m00tIs it possible that God exists outside of time and space in a higher plane of existence?I couldn't possibly pretend to understand the sophistication of the math and cosmological concepts that suggest some of these "multi-verses and parallel" things.

But one mystery that I am close to understanding is the phenomenon seen in human nature, whereby people are so quick to dismiss those who believe in a major religion, yet entertain ideas like astrology, magic, witchcraft and other occultist beliefs that are substantiated in one's conviction by mere belief!
First, you seem to imply that god exists in the first place, and that he can interact with -- and therefore must have presence -- this universe, since he allegedly created it, right?

Basically, to disprove your statement, one would have to show that there is not other "plane of existence". Which by your criteria cannot be done since we are limited to our OWN plane of existence.

So, let the burden be on you: you prove the existence of another plane, and then I'd believe in it.

And at that point, this question does NOT belong in Astronomy and Space, it is a religious one.Is it possible that God exists outside of time and space in a higher plane of existence?
There never has been any proof of any kind of god. There is plenty of proof that mankind created their owns gods because of fear of the dark and the unknown. And by the way, what is on the outside of this universe? Any universe? Is there an outside? Will this animal species, located in an arm of one galaxy out of trillions, ever have the intellect to figure it out?
    Simple answer- yes.

But I think the answer given that this is not really the right category is correct. Is it possible that God exists outside of time and space in a higher plane of existence?
God existed at the same time and space as the rest of us, but he was nailed to a cross 2000 years ago.
    No.

Not if you are asking if there is a person in a parallel universe who can jump back and forth with this universe.

Also why wouldn't time affect him? Why would his area of existence be called higher or lower? Why would he need to be in two separate universes? Isn't one enough? You idea leaves too many questions for no reason.
In which case, why in the hell would He care about us?

    .
well, first off, this is better asked in the R%26amp;S section. Second of all, I doubt it. There might be an infinite amount of universes, but I'd imagine they'd follow laws of physics and god obviously doesn't equate with those laws. A dude who can do ANYTHING? Come on. Doing everything isn't possible.
If i were God id be laughing at mortals right now.
No, it is not possible that it exists in a science forum. Furthermore, if you do not even know if it exists, why would you refer to it as a he?
well, this is just my theory, the big bang theory was under gods control, he had put us on earth to see how long the human race would last on the planet with all its resources,
Is it also conceivable that "god" or the being, or beings that we consider "god" could be interdimensional beings?

Have you considered the idea that we are simply an ant farm gone wild?

Just thought I'd add some more questions for you to ponder, because in the end... no one knows, and no one is right and no one is wrong.

What are my chances of a crash in a small plane?

so the college im planning on attending next year is far away from home...there is an airport pretty close but i would have to take a small plane out of it. i want to visit home somewhat frequently but im worried about traveling on small planes because ive heard the chances are higher when it comes to crashes! haha it would be like an hour flight btw

and i know its a dumb fear...haha so any facts or comfort you can give me?

thanks!!What are my chances of a crash in a small plane?I have flown hundreds of flights in small planes, in planes as small as 4 passenger, to 8 passenger, to 12 passenger, to 18 passenger, to 20 passenger, 40 passenger, 50 passenger, and so on, in many parts of North America without one incident over a 45 year period. I think you are safer in a small commuter plane.

In 3 weeks i have to take a plane to America to see my Step Dad, and i really don't want to go for reasons that i would rather not share. How many bottles of alcohol can I carry in a plane from Stockholm?

    Hi,

I'm traveling from Stockholm to India this month. I just want to know how many bottles of alcohol can I carry in the plane to India.

If I can carry more than one do I necessarily need to buy the bottles from shops in the airport or can I buy it from outside and carry it with me?

    Please help.

    Best Regards

AnandHow many bottles of alcohol can I carry in a plane from Stockholm? You CAN'T carry any IN the plane, but you can put some in your suitecase... the rules might be diffrent for India...

but in general from OUTSIDE the E.U to bring BACK into E.U it is

    200 Cigarettes

    2l Table Wine

    1l Liquire/Sprit e.g. Vodka

but that is if your OUTSIDE the E.U entering an E.U country... it might be diffrent for going to India... maybe ask the airline you booked the flight with ??

**The exception is in the Airport I think you can buy AS MUCH AS YOU CAN CARRY... so maybe going to Inida you wanted some famous drinks from Syockholm, you could buy as many as you can carry inside the aeroport** but check the laws on entering India with drinks first...

How to translate a point 45 degrees on the coordinate plane?

How would one translate a point 45 degrees clockwise on the coordinate plane? I know that to translate the point 90 degrees you have to change the x and y coordinate...ex: (7,1) becomes (1,7) and change the sign of the new y coordinate making the point (1,-7)....does anyone know how to do this? Your help is greatly appreciated! How to translate a point 45 degrees on the coordinate plane?Sure. To rotate (x,y) through angle a, use:

    x' = x*cos(a) + y*sin(a)

    y' = y*cos(a) - x*sin(a)

Why does an plane have to be pushed back from an airport stand?

Why can't the pilot just reverse the plane him-/herself?Why does an plane have to be pushed back from an airport stand? The aircraft has to be pushed back for two reasons. Firstly, the aircraft is too close to the terminal if its connected to a gate even though most aircraft can turn virtually sideways. The engine thrust would damage the terminal building during the turn. Secondly, There are often other aircraft parked too close to make the turn possible. If the reverse thrust is used, apart from the incredible noise generated, again the thrust would be dangerous to ground staff, terminal and aircraft parked nearby. There is no connection between the wheels and the engine, they only have brakes. Why does an plane have to be pushed back from an airport stand?
Using reverse thrust at a gate would not only be an enormous waste of jet fuel it could also be a serious hazard to all kinds of things. In fact they are talking about not only pushing back from the gate but actually using the tractor to move planes up to the main taxi-ways i.e. nearly the end of the runway. On big jets this allegedly would save something like 3 tonnes of fuel. Why does an plane have to be pushed back from an airport stand?Airplanes do not have a reverse gear -- reverse is used to slow the airplane down not go backwards. Why does an plane have to be pushed back from an airport stand?
I think mainly to save fuel needed for the flight and I don鈥檛 think most planes can reverse (well not into mountains :-)Why does an plane have to be pushed back from an airport stand? There are different scenarios which warrant the pilot reversing the plane himself. Most planes are pushed from the gate for safety reasons. There are certain gates in Terminal 3 of O'hare that the plane is only reversed out by the pilot. I'm not a pilot, but there are times when the pilots can reverse the plane out vs. a push.
Probably because they don't have a reverse gear like in a car, and they can't see where they are going. Why does an plane have to be pushed back from an airport stand?
lol while your at it...maybe they should put on some reversing sensors as it is quite a large thing lol
I thought "pushing Back" was just a term, and planes DID reverse themselves. Just goes to show, eh!Why does an plane have to be pushed back from an airport stand?
An aircraft engines do not reverse - the blades in the jets do. An aircraft on the apron could do this - but it would be a waste of energy when a tractor can 'tug' it out.

When an aircraft lands, you hear the engines roar. This is NOT reverse, it is the engines working hard, with the blades reversed
Jets can't push backwards. And can you imagine what jet thrust would do to the terminal buildings?

However many propeller driven aircraft CAN reverse the thrust of their propellers and reverse unaided- The DeHavilland Dash 8, for instance. They regularly do this when they are "out in the sticks" at minimal, rural airstrips.
Good question. They could reverse engines and back up, but that would blow the **** out of the docking area. That's the only reason they don't.
Duh ... there's no rear view or wing mirrors. How's he going to see where he's going
becasue the engines cant be moved to throw the wind on the front side its desigined to move it in the forward motion only
The airplane doesn't have a motor that turns the wheels like a car. It has a jet engine that pushes air. Putting jet thrusters in reverse uses ALOT of energy and fuel (and might cause damage to the immediately adjacent building). It's easier and more efficient to use the engine on a small truck to push the plane backwards.
They might not be able to start up the jet engines that close to a building. The force might blow the windows out or something.
Because using power on the engines would cause damage to the stand
Only jets and turboprops can pushback on their own.Commercial jets are pushed back because it's less stress on the engines ands saves fuel,it's also less dangerous around the gate area. You don't get the turbulance from the reverse thrust of the engines around the gate area where luggage or traffic cones may become airborne.
they dont go in reverse, and even if they did, when the pilot reved up the engines, it would proberly smash all the windows with all the noise and pressure,

  • What papers/identification do you need to get on a plane?

In July I am going to California to visit colleges with my father, I do not know what papers/identification I will need to actually board the plane...I know it's a stupid question but I really don't know. Like my birth certificate, identification, social security card, passport, etc...?What papers/identification do you need to get on a plane? You get a boarding pass at the desk where you book in, and that is all you want. What papers/identification do you need to get on a plane?before you get your boarding pass you will need to present photo ID to the check in counter-so a driving license or SSC or passport will be needed. What papers/identification do you need to get on a plane? You just need a photo ID, such as a driver's license. I've been allowed to board by showing just my debit card (which has my photo on it), but I think it should probably be government-issued.

How do you Plane a Block of Wood Without Chipping its ends?

I need some help answering the following question. I really do not know the answer, so any help would be greatly appreciated:

Question: How do you Plane a Block of Wood Without Chipping its ends?

-ThanksHow do you Plane a Block of Wood Without Chipping its ends?Place a piece of scrap wood next to it in the vice. Make sure that it is tight up against it and that they are level with one-another. If you get my drift. How do you Plane a Block of Wood Without Chipping its ends?plane with the grain, or take MUCH less material off per stroke. if you are hand planing...work from middle out (with grain of course)...if using a self feeding plane, the hardest part is starting without putting a slight knick but not impossible if you feed flat and straight (use a large table BEFORE the plane to help feed straight to start...and always, plane in very very small increments. By the way, you should cut to length AFTER you plane, not before and then this is not an issue

I plan to spend a month in America, followed by 5 Months in Canada on a canadian work visa, then travel back over to america for another 3 months before flying to England. But I will be crossing the american/canadian border in a car. And I don't have evidence to support my promises of leaving the country when I enter the first time (like a plane ticket). What are the new rules for traveling on a plane????

I need to know a couple things about traveling on an air plane.

    1. How many suitcases can you carry on?

    2. How many suitcases can you check on?

    3. Can you use cell phones during the flight?

    4. Can you bring candy/snacks that are sealed?

    5. Can you bring water?

    6. May you use electronic devices during the flight?

    7. Do they still have blankets/pillows for usage?

Anything else you can tell me would be great.

Just answer as much as you can.

Thanks for thge help i appreciate itWhat are the new rules for traveling on a plane????1. 2 carry ons however they should be smaller such as a small suitcase a backpack, laptop case etc....

2.2 except on delta and us airways which are now down to 1. with a 25 charge for an extra one

3.no cell phones during flight, most won't work anyway.

4.yes candy and snacks are good, they don't have to be sealed. just not liquid.

    5. no water unless you buy it after security

    6. yes electronic devices are fine. they have to be turned off for take off and landing but at cruising altitude the flight attendant will make an announcement saying you're good to turn them on.

    7. some do, most airlines are getting rid of them except on international flights. so i'd say you make get one you make not. What are the new rules for traveling on a plane????Depends on the airline/plane, but the general rules are:

    1. One carry on and one personal item (purse, laptop bag)

    2. One/two

    3. No

    4. Yes

    5. If you purchase it after you go through security.

    6. Yes, with the exception of Wifi items. You will have to turn them off during takeoff and landing.

    7. They're supposed to (more for long flights), but sometimes others have taken them by the time you get on the plane.

Here are allowed/prohibited items for carry on:

http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/p鈥?/a>What are the new rules for traveling on a plane????1- you can bring 1 carryon size bag and one small purse or laptop bag

2- 3 or 4 depending on the airline alot of them are charging now for 2 or more

    3- NO

    4- Yes

5- yes but it has to be purchased in the airport after youve gone through security

6- yes but no tvs or laptops with the wifi on

7- some airlines do alot of them are limited.

  • What do you do after you get off a plane to a diffrent country?

I'm using Russia for a story I'm writing. So what do you do after you get off a plane to Russia? What do you do after you get off a plane to a diffrent country? You have to go through immigration and customs. Immigration is letting you into the country (it's where you show your passport and visa); customs is checking the goods you're bringing into the country (if you're bringing anything other than your personal effects - gifts, for example), so you deal with that after you pick up your baggage.

All this takes place inside the secured area of an airport. Typically, you then pass out of the secured area, and at that point, everyone who's waiting for friends and relatives to arrive are amassed behind some kind of barrier (possibly just a half-wall), and calling out to them as they arrive. What do you do after you get off a plane to a diffrent country?Well beife you leave your country you have hot to go to avtravel agen and they should help you set up a hotel room in Russia before you leave unless you have family there

How early in advance can you book a plane ticket?

I'm trying to find the prices of plane tickets for summer 2010, and whenever i try sites like travelsupermarket they say they can't find a match or try a broader search. i've done broader searches but it still hasn't come up with anything. Just wondering if anyone knows where i can find early plane tickets online or do i have to go to a travel agent? Or is it too early to book a plane ticket for summer 2010?How early in advance can you book a plane ticket?Generally flight booking sites like expedia, etc.. are controlled by the availability of ticket price information, which is released to them by the airlines. This is often not more than 11 months in advance, and sometimes only 9 months ahead.

You should wait until Sept or Oct, when the full rage of summer 2010 tickets will be available for you to choose from. How early in advance can you book a plane ticket?I think that you can book up to a year in advance. The policy may vary from airline to airline, though. How early in advance can you book a plane ticket?Travelsupermarket would use the likes of EASYJET , JET2 , RYANAIR and all the rest , all 3 of them release there seats 6 months in advance so if you want to travel in April you can book from November. Hope this helps. If you where looking for a charter airline eg. Thomas Cook , Thomson Airways , Monarch you could prob go to a travel agent now and book because charter airlines usually release seats about a year before hand , But if you where looking for Turkey with Goldtrail Holidays they use Onur Air and Turkish Airlines and release about 6 months before as well.

Hope this helps [p.s i did work experience in Thomas Cook]

How do I project a point on to a plane?

I have a point inside of a right cylinder. I want to project that point to the plane that is one of the 'caps'. I know only the coordinate for the point, the radius and height of the cylinder, and the points of its two caps. How do I project a point on to a plane? Are the 'caps' parallel to one of the coordinate planes?

E.g. if the cylinder's axis of symmetry is parallel to the z-axis (assuming it's a circular cylinder :), then it's caps have the form z=C for some constant C.

    Then the point (x_0, y_0, z_0) projected onto this plane is (x_0, y_0, C).

What kind of food can I bring on a plane?

I'm about to take a flight to Las Vegas and I was wondering if I could bring food from home on the plane. It's not specific about it on the TSA site so I was wondering if anyone knew due to past experience? I want to bring snacks, that's all because it's a pretty short flight. Oh, and will I get through security with snacks? What kind of food can I bring on a plane? You can bring just about anything. If it is a liquid or gel type of consistancy such as pudding, yogurt, applesauce, canned/jarred foods, etc it must be in containers of 3.4oz/100ml or less and must be in your 1qt zip top bag.

Some good things to bring are sandwitches, trail mix, apples, carrots, granola, individual packages of cereal, Pringles chips (all others tend to get crushed in your carry on), cookies (individual packs are best), candy, grapes, rasins, etc. You want to avoid things that need refrideration or heating and things that get crushed easily (chips in bags, Chex mix).

I take things to snack on all the time. I recently brought two sandwhiches from Boston Market home in my carry on (we don't have Boston Market here anymore and my mom and sister were jealous that I had it when I visited my friend). What kind of food can I bring on a plane?
Just Jess gave you the good answer. What kind of food can I bring on a plane? The only real restriction is water. Anything above 500ml will be confiscated. What kind of food can I bring on a plane?

I am pretty sure that snacks are OK. You can not bring any bottle water or sodas. That will take them anyway at security.

Thanks for asking this question. I too am planing a vacation to Vegas and was wondering the same thing, Although it is a 5 hour flight I always get hungry. You got some great answers, aren't people great? Have fun in Vegas.

I've searched around for airfare quite a bit, and these three sites usually ring true as the cheapest. Other than that, I'd go to sites like igougo.com, travelzoo.com, kayak.com or bookingbuddy.com. These sites offer searches of multiple online airfare websites, making it easier and less time consuming to compare prices. As for when to buy, I usually go to farecast.com. They pretty accurately predict when a good time to buy a flight would be based off of past and current trends, etc. It's pretty useful. Another site I've found handy is rightflight.org. They did a bunch of research on the various airfare sites to see which sites are usually the cheapest. They also have a list of most of the airfare sites (60+) on their webpage, which can be pretty handy in and of itself. Hope this helped! What are some sites where i can get cheap plane tickets?

How can i avoid feeling Naucious on a long plane trip?

I get really ill on plane trips and try and sleep it off as much as i can. but i sometimes cant sleep and are there any techniques to stop this feeling? How can i avoid feeling Naucious on a long plane trip?Hi Lara,

Have you tried Dramamine it is available over the counter at pharmacies for motion sickness. If you are on medication then check with your doctor as there may be something better for you to take and will not conflict with it. If you live in the US you can try some Benadryl, as it works with sleep and anxiety that can be encountered with flying. Benadryl is also available over the counter as an allergy medication. However I would not recommend mixing Benadryl and Dramamine. How can i avoid feeling Naucious on a long plane trip?If it's a severe problem, your doctor could prescribe a prescription drug that would work. If given f(x,y), I'm asked to find the equation of the tangent plane at (x,y,z). Do I find df/dx and df/dy and only use the x and y coordinates? How about the z coordinate? How do I find the equation of a tangent plane of a function at a point in 3D?If z=f(x,y), then dz = (df/dx) dx + (df/dy) dy .

Therefore, at the point (x0, y0, z0) the equation of the tangent plane is

    (df/dx) (x-x0) + df/dy (y-y0) - (z-z0) = 0 where the derivatives are to be evaluated at the point (x0,y0) too.

So here you see how the z-coodinate of the tangent point (z0) needs to be used.

    Example: z = 4 - x^2 - y^2. Equation of the tangent plane though (1,1,2)?

    df/dx = -2 x

    df/dy=-2 y

    So in (1,1,2)

    df/dx = -2

    df/dy = -2

    -2 (x - 1) - 2( y - 1) - (z - 2) = 0

When a plane is lifting off which force is greater: air resistance or thrust?

When a plane is lifting off which force is greater: air resistance or thrust? When a plane is lifting off which force is greater: air resistance or thrust?Depends.

If the A/C is accelerating while lifting off, then f = ma = T - F %26gt; 0 is the net force and thrust T %26gt; F the air resistance (and ground friction with the wheels) so that a %26gt; 0.

But if the plane is lifting off at a constant velocity, then f = ma = T - F = 0 so that a = 0 and T = F, the thrust equals the resistance while lifting off.

How long does it take from the time a plane lands in Amsterdam (Shichpol) until clearing customs?

    Hi,

I'm stopping over in Amsterdam for 8 hours on my way from Tel-Aviv to New York and I'm hoping to get in a little sightseeing. I was wondering how long it would take to get from the plane to the train station in the airport. Also I was wondering how long it takes to clear security in the airport for my flight to the U.S.

ThanksHow long does it take from the time a plane lands in Amsterdam (Shichpol) until clearing customs? It always depends on how many other international flights land around the same time yours does, I've been to Schipol a couple of times and it took less than 30 minutes each time. Clearing security when I departed took me about 5-10 minutes each time.

The train station is right below the airport and only takes a few minutes to walk to, and the train into Central Station takes only about 15 minutes. Trams and taxis are available right outside Cental Station which is very close to many of the attractions in Amsterdam, you should have 5-6 hours to spend in Amsterdam. Central Amsterdam is very compact and the trams can take you to many places very quickly, have fun.How long does it take from the time a plane lands in Amsterdam (Shichpol) until clearing customs?8 hours is not really long enough considering after clearing customs, etc.. you will have probably less than 3 hours before you need to return to the airport to catch your flight to NYC.

How much does a plane, or jet go for?

I'm thinking about getting a plane in the near future, just a small one that I can go around in and fly in.... also, how much are some military planes now or back in the day...... ?How much does a plane, or jet go for?If your talking about buying a former military airplane (warbird) the prices vary greatly. You can get a North American AT-6 for $120,000 and up. North American T-28 from $150,000 and up. P-51 Mustang starts around $1.2 million and I have seen them around $2.0 million. Check out www.courtesyaircraft.com for warbird listings.

You can get a nice used Cessna 172 or Piper Cherokee for $40,000 to $60,000 with decent times remaining. Then their are the two seat Cessna 150/152s and Piper Tomahawks for $15,000 to $30,000.

You can get a used Cessna Citation 500/501 for around a million dollars and the new Very Light Jets are claiming to cost from $800,000-$2.5 million for jets such as the Eclipse, Adam A700, Citation Mustang, and Diamond D-JetHow much does a plane, or jet go for?

New technologies鈥攊ncluding more efficient manufacturing systems, high-tech digital avionics, and lighter, more powerful engines鈥攈ave enabled designers to build so-called microjets that can fly up to six passengers at hundreds of miles an hour, at a cost of as little as $1 million. (In comparison, Cessna's entry-level private jet, the CJ1, costs about $4.2 million.)

If that's too steep for your private hangar, don't worry鈥攜ou should still get the opportunity to fly in these craft. Air-taxi companies will use the jets for on-demand travel to local and regional airports nationwide, thereby avoiding the congestion of major hubs and delivering you closer to your destination.

Bargain-basement manufacturing and operation costs should allow small-plane passengers to enjoy all the convenience of a private jet鈥攁ny airport, anytime, no lines, no check-in鈥?for the price of a business-class airline ticket or cheaper. DayJet in Delray Beach, Florida, has ordered 239 Eclipse 500s, made by Eclipse Aviation in Albuquerque, and plans to launch service next spring.

The only drawback is privacy, or lack thereof. With the cabin space of a large sedan, these aircraft have little room for fancy extras, such as lavatory doors. The toilet in Cessna's Citation Mustang is separated from the cabin by a mere curtain. Austrian-based Diamond Aircraft Industries, makers of the five-seater D-Jet, may omit the bathroom altogether. Our advice: Leave your modesty, and your coffee, on the ground. Here, a look at three new microjets to come.

    The Plane: Eclipse 500

The Company: Eclipse CEO Vern Raburn, a veteran of Microsoft, has raised more than $400 million in start-up funds and now has five prototypes being flight-tested.

The Key Technology: Raburn鈥檚 secret to cost savings is a fully automated, ultrafast manufacturing technology called friction-stir welding, which eliminates the need for rivet guns.

The Specs: $1.47 million, Six seats (including crew), Cruise speed: 432 mph

The Time Frame:Commercial flights are expected next spring.

    The Plane: Citation Mustang

The Company: Industry veteran Cessna builds a range of aircraft, from small, propeller-driven planes to top-end business jets.

The Key Technology: The Integrated Garmin G1000 avionics digital display replaces most switches and dial gauges. This gives pilots better situational awareness by plotting out potential hazards on a map.

The Specs: $2.4 million, Six seats (including crew), Cruise speed: 391 mph

The Time Frame:Commercial flights should begin in 2006.

    The Plane: Diamond D-Jet

    The Company:Austrian aviation company

Diamond is smaller than Cessna but more established than Eclipse; the D-Jet is its first jet-powered model.

The Key Technology: Made from composites, as Formula One racing cars are, the D-Jet will be lighter, stronger and more aerodynamic than a comparable aircraft made of aluminum.

The Specs: About $1 million, Five seats (including crew), Cruise speed: 363 mph

The Time Frame:Commercial flights are expected by 2007.

I wish I had the money to buy one, I wouldn't but I wish I had the money.
A new plane starts at $250,000, but a new plane lasts up to 40 years and over 10,000 hours, so a used plane can be as good as new, even if its from the 60's

you can get a older mooney m20, which is one of about 3 single engine planes that can fly at 200mph or faster(and was the first plane to break 200mph with less than 200hp, using a 180hp o-360 engine which is also used in the considerably slower cessna 172) for about $65,000. Most have very high hours, but many dont. I saw one for sale the other day that had ifr certified gps and about 3000 hours for about $70,000.

Thats about a cheap as you can get, unless you want to go with a very small very limited aircraft such as one of the original piper cus, which can be found for less than $30,000, but have only 80hp and go very very slow.

Oh, and remeber, $60,000 ounds like alot, but the loans are for 20-30 years.

If you can get some buddies together, the cost of flying a mooney actually becomes less than taking an airliner. Think of this: a mooney can fly 200mph using 10 gallons and hour, which is about 20mpg, but when you share the cost between 4 people it means that you can fly 4 people 1000mile and back for $400.

The only thing you need to worry about is that planes have a limited weight capacity, so you would be limited to four 170lb people and not much luggage. How much does a plane, or jet go for?
it all depends. there's plenty of websites you can look on that have planes for sale from regular people, along with companies. even some that advertise part ownership. www.aerotraderonline.com is a good one to start with. there's also: www.myplane.com , www.controller.com , www.findaircraft.com , www.wingsonline.com , www.airshow.net.

controller.com is one of the best sites for shopping small planes. You can also get price and annual budget estimates for larger private jets at: http://www.jets.com/private_jets.aspx
    You are awesome!

I've done quite abit of research over the years and found this information about this subject.

First of all, in order to fly a jet it is a rule of thumb to get at least private, instrument and commercial rating(Not necassary, but you will have to spend the same amount of money on flight hours anyways, so my as well have a commercial license). It would be good to get your twin engine rating also, but not necassary. What is important to get at least 300 hours of flying time and 500 hours would be better before piloting a jet aircraft.

So, in order to get that many hours you may consider purchasing a less expensive aircraft like a cessna 172 or equivalent. I personally would pick a pitts s-2 to train on, but it may be a little more power than most, but fully acrobatic and realtively inexpensive. What ever small aircraft I would choose I would definately spend a little extra money on a new safety system that is a rocket propelled parachute for emergency situations only.

    http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story鈥?/a>

    Anywho,

As a jet enthusiast and substantial amount of research on the subject there is clearly only one jet aircraft you want to purchase. The L-39 Albatross http://www.l39.com/photos.html. It is a russian trainer for pilots before they fly in Migs. It beats every other plane in every category. These are the reasons why. Safety, Training, and Cost Efficiency Excellent safety record with several distributors and licensed mechanics throughout the country. It has sturdy strengthened landing gear. It can glide in the event of a engine failure. It even comes with two of the best ejection seats in the world. They are rated zero-zero meaning you can have zero altitude and zero speed and still safely walk away. Even if you eject at a 90' angle at 20' off the ground you still have a decent chance of survival due to the russians gyroscopic rocket design. However, Your insurance may cost a lot more due to the explosive charges that blows the bolts off the seat and canopy in a ejection emergency. Next the economics cost of this Aircraft is unbelievable! A descent L-39 aircraft itself costs between 350k-750k depending on the total airframe and engine hours, bells and whistles year made etc. The best part is that the total cost per hour including fuel and maintenance is only $500! Compare that to other jets at $1000-$10,000 or even $20,000! I spoke with an owner of an L-39 at an airshow, he loves it and he also gets a paycheck from it to help cover the costs...Hollywood and even the government pays him for special projects. You can see the L-39 Albatross in the opening Scene of James Bond's "Tomorrow Never Dies".

    Second choice

There is another aircraft that may be close to the L-39 Albatross, but it is an experimental aircraft with little safety history, but about the same costs. The Viper Jet! http://www.viperjet.com/.

    Others:

    Careful!

There are a lot of other jets out there, but they are too expensive ( http://www.avtechgroup.com/ Awesome but experimental and expensive twin engine ratings needed with hours!), unsafe, or realllly unsafe. Avoid Mig-15's and Mig-21. They cost very little upfront but are very expensive in Maintenance and fuel. Not to mention how very unstable they are in flight. They are deathtraps to pilots without a lot of flying experience in jets. They do not have zero-zero ejection seats and in many aspects can be very dangerous.

Note: if you have a lot of money to spend, after you have your 300+ hours in a jet trainer you can pick up a Mig-29 for 1 million to 5 million dollars depending on total airframe and engine hours ,bells and whistles, year etc., but they cost around $20,000 an hour in fuel and maintenance. This would be the best aircraft to purchase with an exhorbenent budget. It has a better turning radius than an f-16 and is faster around Mach 2 I believe, but you can't go these speeds in United States airspace.

Also, you would need a lot of hours in a twin engine craft before flying these. However they are available to purchase at this time.

Whatever you choose do some research and find out the safety concerns first (Safety History, Back-up systems etc.) training second (hours needed) and economics (fuel/Maintenance per hour, Total airframe hours, total engine hours, Maintenance records/ service avaiability etc.) Good luck to you and best of all wishes!

Do you have a feeling that a Qantas plane will crash one day?

Are its incident bad omens building up to a crescendo?

Qantashians should stop being greedy and they should stop flying. Hell, I'd rather fly with the Kardashians private plane.Do you have a feeling that a Qantas plane will crash one day? It's inevitable really, It would be very difficult to not have a crash in the entire lifetime of the business. The problems they've had so far aren't too bad, I know they lost an engine but they still landed safely. The Qantas pilots are well trained so they can handle situations calmly and safely. It's been 90 years without a crash, it's bound to happen sometime. I would still fly with them.Do you have a feeling that a Qantas plane will crash one day?I remember a few years ago the media had a similar beat up about airplane safety, they tried to find faults all the time.

Considering nearly everytime I have flown there has been at least one plane late or departure delayed because of a maintenance or like issue, I would say that any given day across Australia (the world) that you could find at least one or two issues QANTAS has with their planes ... thankfully CASA and QANTAS standards are very high and I do not believe QANTAS has still had a major accident (if Rain Man is to be believed).

Obviously chances are that eventually QANTAS would have to have an accident, the seriousness however should be minimised by the standards set by themselves and CASA.Do you have a feeling that a Qantas plane will crash one day?Despite these incidents Qantas still has an overall impressive safety record.

One day it will have to happen, one day Qantas will have a crash. It is bound to happen as a matter of chance.Do you have a feeling that a Qantas plane will crash one day?
yeah I do. Have been thinking the same thing lately.

Too many issues lately. Maybe they should spend more of their profit on maintenance!

Has anyone ever sedated their cat for a plane ride?

I'll be moving from CA to PA and I must fly. I've read other forums about sedatives and how they might mess with a cat's body temperature, however, I'm pretty sure my 5 yr old cat will "meow" for the entire flight. Are sedatives safe? Help! Any suggestions on good carriers that will fit under the seat in the cabin of the plane? Thanks!Has anyone ever sedated their cat for a plane ride?About the carrier, try one of those soft sided ( bag like). They are usually the most comfortable for the cat and easiest for putting under the seats. Make sure it is airline approved. Check out this site to get a picture or idea of what I'm talking about they are affordable like 39.00.

    http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Pr鈥?/a>

Try not to stress out about it, make sure you get a Health Certificate from your Veterinary (usually only good for 10 days - so make sure you schedule it so it will not run out on you) and that your kitties vaccinations are up to date. Make sure you carrier is Airline approved and that you confirm your pets airline reservation a few times before you fly. If you feel you need to sedate you pet, try herbal (because alot of them don't have adverse side effects - I recomend you try it out a few days before you fly that way you know if your cat will have an adverse reaction and you have time to find a new one and take him to the vet)

Try looking for an herbal or natrual seditive because those have minimal side effects.

Prescription seditives are dangerouse! I'm a vet tech and my vet never prescribed them only if the animal was so crazy he'd hurt himself in the carrier. ( a dog who bleed to death because he was so anxiouse he chewed threw his tale and tore all his front nails out on the crate door).

They (prescription seditives) can drop/or raise the core body temp (pending on the animal), which ultimatly effect the brain - causing brain damage, seizures, and utl. death.

I have seen many animls have adverse reations to a variety of sedatives, from swelling/hives which started all over the outer body then progressed to the inside, ult. effecting the airway and causing death.

Many animals have seizers and heart attacks on some seditives.

So if you are more worried about her meowing the whole plane ride, vs. Heart Attack, Sezures, Hypo/Hyper - thermia, Brain Damage, and Allergic Reactions ( not to mention the most common - vomitting/diaherria) I would re-evaluate taking this pet with you on the airplane.....

From my own experience with flying with cats, they meow for about 10 minutes and stop, trying to figure out what is going on. I have flown all over the world and on thousands of planes and never once have I heard a cat meow the entire flight ( even on the flights from the states to Europe when I was growing up in the military and later when i was in the military).

Try not to stress about it, just make sure you have every thing, and it will not be half as bad as you think.

I wish you the best of luck.Has anyone ever sedated their cat for a plane ride?
will they even let you put the cat in the cabin,i thought they put them with the luggage,,they have kitty valium,my cats used it,no negitive resultsHas anyone ever sedated their cat for a plane ride?I haven't sedated any of my cats throughout life and I probably never will. If my cat was a crier, I'm sure he/she would get tired after a while of crying. I wouldn't consider sedatives worth the risk.Has anyone ever sedated their cat for a plane ride?
talk with your vet about it, there could be alternitives to sedations, you should also contact the airlines about pet care and see if they have a pet carrier you can rent for the deration of the flight, you also need to contact a vet in pa incase you little one had trouble coming out of sedation. good luck,Has anyone ever sedated their cat for a plane ride?I have for a long car ride. When I moved from IL to KY the vet gave us pill form. It did help with their nerves. I would just call the vet and talk to him about side effects and what kinds are available. Plus they can give you all the side effects.Has anyone ever sedated their cat for a plane ride?
One, you are NOT going to get your cat on any plane without a vet certification of health within 10 days of a flight. THAT's good for your cat. Discuss this with your vet in terms of your cat's current health.

If your cat's carrier will fit under your seat and allows him/her to turn around, your cat can fly IN the cabin. That's good for you and your cat? Maybe not so good for everyone else!!

The only way I would ever sedate my cat was if he/she were going to be traveling under my seat IN THE CABIN.

The danger of having your cat put into the planes' cargo hold while sedated is simply you are NOT there to monitor your cat while he/she is sedated. Honestly, the suitcases aren't going to care how loudly your cat meows.

Until last year, the airlines were NOT forced to disclose how many pet deaths/elopements/mislocations happened on their airlines. The airlines said their reasons were because 'they didn't keep track of that information as a whole'.

Good for US, things have changed and airlines must now keep up with their animal shipment information. Wether or not pet deaths are public information at this point -- I haven't heard.

Good luck on your move and as a head's up -- you don't want to over feed your fluffy before a flight. Good to drop off soilds the night before and stop the water intake two hours before travel.Has anyone ever sedated their cat for a plane ride?
I flew from PA to CO with two cats, one who's a meower like yours. The vet gave me a mild sedative for her and it worked very well, she was quiet and just a bit drowsy, no problems at all.

Also, for carriers to go under the seat, check out Sherpa Pet carriers, they are airline approved and very good.

    Good luck!
I sedated my cat for the plane ride from Anchorage to Seattle. She's a pretty skittish cat, and I thought that she would be meowing throughout the flight. So, we cornered her and shoved the sedative down her throat (unlike dogs, cats are smart enough not to eat a pill covered in cheese, or tuna fish, or cat food - we tried everything!)

Turns out that she still meowed throughout the entire flight! But (I didn't think of this before the flight - duh!) the plane was noisy enough - with background and engine noise, that no one heard the kitty. She was in the cabin with me, under my seat. If you are going to have her in the cargo hold, don't ever sedate them, because the hold is only temperature controlled during the flight, and not during take off or landing. If you are stuck on the taxiway for a hour (which happens pretty often) the heat (or cold) can easily kill a sedated cat.

    Hope this helps!

P.S. If you are going to have her in the cargo hold with you, use a soft sided carrier and not one of those itty bitty clamshell plastic carriers. My cat freaked out when we put her in the plastic clamshell carrier, but was OK with the soft sided carrier (we fed her in the carrier and left it open for her to play in for a few weeks before the flight so she was pretty comfortable in it). And trim your cats nails (or get the vet to do it) before you fly, or else she will shred the soft sided carrier (and you have to take her out of the carrier and walk with the cat in your arms through the security screening - can be very painful if she still can claw you!)

What to do with a small baby on a long plane trip?

I'm traveling with my 2-month-old to see my parents who live overseas. She's bottle fed and I need advice on how to handle feedings during the trip. Is there sterile water on the plane? What can I take in my hand luggage as far as other liquids? Is there any way of cleaning my bottles on the plane, etc. Thanks! What to do with a small baby on a long plane trip?i would take only empty, sterile bottles and purchase the liquid baby formula that comes in the small 2-4 oz bottles, like 6-8 in a box... similac and good start have those. that should be allowed in carry-on, right??... that way you don't have to worry about mixing on the plane and if you have sterile nipples that 's even better cause all you have to do is attach the nipple to the little formula bottles and feed.

oh, or enfamil has a box of 16 individual serving size packets for 10.99; each packet makes a 4oz bottle of formula. i know those fit in your purse or hand-bag and are very versatile... you can definately mix bottles at your seat with those and a bottle of un-chilled purified water....maybe they sell bottled purified water on the plane you could use and not have to worry about bringing it.... those are the best ideas...

another idea is to bring 1 or 2 bottles of unchilled purified water and an unopened can of powdered formula... you can mix that at your seat....but i dont' know if that passes flying guidelines.

of course there is sterile water on the aircraft. whether it be a 737 747, 757, etc etc, there is going to be some bottles of water, and as far as other liquids, check the FAA,FAR, the airports designated "safe" lists, and other things like that.

FAR - federal aviation regulationsWhat to do with a small baby on a long plane trip?I took my son on a plane trip when he was 2 months old (he's 5 months now) and we took bottled water for his formula. The airlines said as long as it is for the baby it is okay to bring even if it's breast milk. They will open a bottle and test it but you can take what ever you need. I used the Playtex drop-ins so I didn't have to wash the bottles and I took several bottles so I didn't have to wash the nipples.

Does two pilots fly a plane simultaneously and does passenger flights have parachutes?

I have seen two steering wheel in the flight's cockpit, does two pilots fly one plane at the same time? and Does passenger flights have parachutes for passengers?Does two pilots fly a plane simultaneously and does passenger flights have parachutes? One pilot is the pilot flying, and the other is the pilot not flying. Only one pilot is flying at a given time. The pilot not flying does other essential duties like talking to ATC, performing checklists, and the like.

Passenger planes do not have parachutes as they would be ineffective and could actually cause more danger to the flight in many circumstances. Don't worry, the plane isn't going to fall out of the sky.Does two pilots fly a plane simultaneously and does passenger flights have parachutes?
Airline flights do not have parachutes, for many reasons: they are too heavy, they require special training to put on and use, they take up too much space, there isn't any easy way to jump from a pressurized airplane at 35,000 feet, there isn't any way to control where people land with parachutes, most accidents would not be prevented by parachutes, and so on, and so on.

There are two steering wheels (called yokes when they are on an airplane) in the aircraft, but only one pilot flies at a time. There are two yokes so that one pilot can take over while the other rests or does other work, which is important on long flights. Also, having two pilots leaves someone who can fly the plane even if one pilot gets sick. The airplane can be flown by only one pilot, so having two is mainly just to share the workload and provide an extra pilot just in case.

Most of the time, airliners are flown by computer. The pilots only fly for take-off and landing, and the rest of the time the computer flies and they don't have to touch the controls. The computer can even land the airplane if necessary. The pilots can take over at any time, but normally they just monitor the flight to make sure the computer is flying the airplane as planned.Does two pilots fly a plane simultaneously and does passenger flights have parachutes?one is always in control of the aircraft at all times, if one leaves the cockpit or is incapacitated in some way, the other one takes over..

there are no parachutes in a plane for several reasons...

    1) it's very hard to open a door at 35,000 feet.

    2) if a plane exploded in mid air, you'd probably be dead anyway

    3) even if you weren't killed by the initial explosion hypoxia could quickly set in and you'd die from that. The legal altitude a civilian is allowed to attempt a skydive is 30,000 feet with special training on how to overcome oxygen deprivation, and most jetliners fly above that anywayDoes two pilots fly a plane simultaneously and does passenger flights have parachutes?
One is a co-pilot in case something happens to the main pilot.

Most everything on any plane is redundant.

Sometimes they have a third man in the cockpit to watch the others.

No there are no parachutes. You couldn't jump if you wanted to because they fly so fast that you would be ripped apart when you jumped.Does two pilots fly a plane simultaneously and does passenger flights have parachutes?Only one pilot flies the airplane at any time. There are two controls so the co-pilot can take over if the pilot gets tired (on long flights)

Passenger flights do not have parachutes unless they are used for skydiving or aerobatic flight.Does two pilots fly a plane simultaneously and does passenger flights have parachutes?
One is the pilot flying, the other pilot not flying. Captain is the Pilot in Command, a legal term.

No parachutes.Does two pilots fly a plane simultaneously and does passenger flights have parachutes?
    no and no

Why do our ears hurt only when the plane is landing, not when taking off?

We know we often feeling hurt in our ears in flight because of the air pressure change (I feel it in almost every flight).

And it is usually when the plane starts descending to land, not when it is taking off.

Why is it? Why only pressurization (when the plane is descending, the air pressure rises), not depressurization that hurts our ears? Why do our ears hurt only when the plane is landing, not when taking off?As you rise, the air in your ear has to escape to equalize the pressure, this is pretty easy unless you have a bad cold or are really stopped up. When you come down, the air pressure increases and air needs to go back through the Eustachian tube, little harder to do.

Try a valsalva (hold your nose and blow, GENTLY), in extreme cases you can extend the blocked ear toward the ceiling, this straightens the tube and makes the air passage a little easier. Why do our ears hurt only when the plane is landing, not when taking off?
It's easier for excess air pressure behind your eardrum to escape as you go up than it is for air to get back into your ear as you descend.

The inside of your eardrum is connected to your mouth and nose with a narrow tube, the eustachian tube. When there's a difference in air pressure between the inside and outside of your eardrum, this tube opens from time to time to let air in or out of your middle ear (that's what makes the popping sound in your ears as you go up or down). When you're going up, the pressure in your middle ear is higher than the pressure outside, and this usually pushes the eustachian tube open without too much trouble. On the way down, though, it's more common for the tube to get stuck and not open easily, so the pressure in your middle ear ends up way lower than the pressure outside, and it hurts until the eustachian tubes finally open. The pain comes from air pressure pushing the eardrum to one side.

The tubes have to open several times both on the way up and on the way down. They'll make a popping sound (sometimes with an odd echo) each time they open. As pressure builds up, you can feel a stuffiness in your ears and it becomes hard to hear (because the eardrum is being pulled tight). When the tubes open, you hear the popping and suddenly you can hear again without the stuffy feeling.

You can help equalize the pressure on the way down by holding your nose shut, closing your mouth, exhaling into your mouth and nose, and swallowing. Why do our ears hurt only when the plane is landing, not when taking off?if there builds a greater pressure in the MIDDLE ear than is the ambient pressure of air, the pressure differential acts against a sensitive piece of tissue called drum, which causes pain.. the overpressure is easily relieved through the Eustachian tube connecting the MIDDLE ear with the mouth.

if there is the underpressure and your tissues in the mouth and nose are swollen (flu etc) the eustachian tube cannot open from a certain pressure difference anymore. then the ear starts to hurt again due to presure differential exerted at the drum. as the pressure of ambient air increases, the drum can burst, orthe Eustachian tube opens randomly causing a hissing sound in your ear, renewing your hearing, with collateral effect of lower ear sensitivity for several days and possible damage to your hearing. Why do our ears hurt only when the plane is landing, not when taking off?
As the plane climbs up to altitude the air pressure drops and the inner ear adapts easily. as the plane descends, the pressure on the inner ear increases and the inner resists the change (it begins to hurt worse as the amount of pressure increases). Try chewing gum or pinching off your nose and increasing the pressure in your head to cause your ears to adjust. Why do our ears hurt only when the plane is landing, not when taking off?I've flown before and have never experienced any ear discomfort until we reached maximum altitude . Never when we land or take off .Why do our ears hurt only when the plane is landing, not when taking off?
Because after being in a higher altitude, your senses are use to being in that lesser amount of gravity, and so when it descends, the plane, the gravity, and your sense, change constantly, making it hard to re-adjust.
