You get a confirmation number when you purchase your ticket. Use your con. # to check in at the airport. Be sure to have your credit card ready.

If you live in the US, nearly all the airlines here have online check-in. Again, you need your confirmation number. Online checek-in opens 24 hours prior to your boarding. When you check in online, your seat is confirmed and it can not be given away. But as far as your bags, you would still have to check-in at the airport to check your bags.

Any where the internet can be found, along with a printer is when you can print an e-ticket. Most airlines (not all) will allow you to print a boarding pass 24 hours before your flight. Make sure you keep track of it after you print it. Most hotels have business centers where you can print boarding passes before you return home.
