To sleep on flights, I would get wax earplugs (MUCH better than those spongy kind) and a good eye mask and neck pillow. I would "tune out" once the meal was served and wake up at my destination rested.
I don't recommend drugs, especially if you're with a group.
You might be able to sleep on the drive to wherever you're staying.
Stay awake and try to make it to 8pm the first night. You'll probably crash and be fine the next day.
Keep hydrated as airplane air is very dry and can add to jet lag symptoms (which are similar). Reset your stomach's clock too. Do NOT get up in the middle of the night and start looking at screens (i.e. computer, T.V., video games) because this kind of light can keep you up. Eat a small snack if you must and head back to bed, keeping the lights low.
hth and have a good time in Blighty! How to prevent jet lag and sleep on a plane?
I travel to the UK every year to visit the family and Jetlag is a real problem. I've tried pills, alcohol, staying awake just before I fly...I still felt dreadful for days after i arrived.
It didn't happen last time :)
I use a little portable light that I found after a lot of research. It works by changing what time your bodyclock thinks it is. So I start at home and set myself to UK time and every 'morning' I use the light and by the time i get to the UK my body knows what time morning is there and I have no Jetlag!
It also helps when i get back...if i'm not right then i use it to readjust my bodyclock to Australian time..2 days..30 mins a day and its fixed!
its called the golite P1 and now Philips have just released the golite Blu which is much prettier and apparently has newer technology in it. Might be time for me to upgrade.
I got mine from http://www.lighttherapy.com.au/products....
