Why did our plane make a stop in a different city?

When we were flying from Mineral Waters to Moscow, in Russia, our plane made an extra stop in Krasnodarsk. They said that they only filled the plane with enough fuel to go halfway and that we were stopping for gas. When we landed in Krasnodarsk they filled up the tank, but then we had to wait another hour afterwards. Why didn't they fill up the tank all the way, if it really was gas related, or why did we make the extra stop? If you have had a similar experience, I'm curious to find out why they did this. Why did our plane make a stop in a different city? When a flight make a stop for fuel it is call direct flight. Sometime airlines also drop off and pick up passengers during the stop to maximize profit; but fuel is usually the main reason. Whether it is necessary to make a stop depend on the aircraft.

Boeing 747 can fly about 10 hours with passenger and cargo load. Boeing 747 is a larger plane and is most profitable when operate with high load factor.

Newer smaller Boeing 777, Airbus A340 fuel efficient long range models allow long distance non-stop flights. Boeing will launch 787 Dreamline in 2009, which can carry more passengers than 777.

Airbus A380 is the world largest flight currently only 4 got delivered to Singapore Airlines. This double deck model can carry more than 500 passengers still fly halfway around the globe. Boeing also have a super jumbo in the making which is 747-8.Why did our plane make a stop in a different city?
maybe they did have a full tank but that's as far as it will go. it's a lot of flying distance to go there. also, it's just an hr so i don't think there's any big deal. usually when i go to thailand i have to stop in san francisco and then japan to change the plane before i get to thailand, and it usually takes couple of hrs too. or sometimes there can be some problems with the engine or some weather or traffic problem at the destination airport so they had to stop somewhere else. Why did our plane make a stop in a different city?Airplanes have a certain weight limit, and since passengers and cargo are the only means of revenue, it could be they were filled to capacity as far as weight and the only way to reduce the weight is to put less fuel in the plane, or that the total distance you were flying was beyond the range of that particular plane. Why did our plane make a stop in a different city?

Don't think it was the reason that they gave you. Just like the Russian government, the Russian airlines are just as bad about dissinformation. Why did our plane make a stop in a different city?
