What is the long pole that sticks out in front of the Top Gun instructor plane in the movie Top Gun?

I think the plane is a Skyhawk A4K but I was unable to determine what is sticking out of the front of it, some kind of pole or something. You might have to watch the movie to see what I am talking about.What is the long pole that sticks out in front of the Top Gun instructor plane in the movie Top Gun?I haven't ween it but it sounds like the refueling probe which protruded about the five o'clock position just aft of where the nose hinges to access the avionics package. (ASQ-17?)
