5-11 you need to complete a unaccompanied minor form which you can get from the airline (or your travel agent)



12-15 years you need to contact your airline.



it is the same for international travel except a child under 6 can travel alone as long as teh flight is no longer than 6 hours.



I would check with the individual airlin though before booking a ticket. to confirm.



qantas also have good information on helping a child to travel on a plane either by them selves or even when accompanied by an adult.
