What to do with plane tickets with wrong date?

I realized that I purchased my plane tickets with the wrong departure date. So, my husband will be traveling the day before me and my daughter. I will have to pay $180 in fees to cancel the departure flight. I will have to purchase more tickets for around $450 in order to leave on the day that I want with my husband. My 5 year old daughter will be flying for the first time and her dad is leaving the day before us. The others are right. It totally depends whether you purchased your tickets thru the internet, a travel agent or directly with the airline. Actually, some airlines don't allow internet-fares to be rebooked. Or if they do, the price ends up with you like buying a whole new ticket. The best thing to do is contact the agent where you got your tickets, explain the situation. They usually contact the airline directly and give a sob story (I get these calls at our airline a lot of times!). They sometimes get their way, they sometimes don't. It all depends on the fare rules of the fare basis/booking class/ticket type that you bought. The restrictions on rebooking (date changes, etc) are reflected on the endorsements box and the airlines always stick to that. I would suggest you contact the airline or travel agency that you booked the tickets with. They can more often than not change the tickets for you for no charge (or a nominal fee) depending on what time of ticket class your purchased.



Explain to the agent what your problem is and be extremely gentle and apologetic. If they won't change it or you don't want to spend the money, make it an "mommy" adventure for you and your daughter.
