as far as flying overseas, the technology is there, but its expensive. and most people dont want to pay $10grand per ticket to fly across the ocean.

The Concorde got from NY to London pretty quick, but it's less a matter of technology, than ecology.



Sonic booms over populated areas is unwelcome, and as has been already pointed out, the laws of physics of a solid object moving through air has a lot to say on the subject.



What you want, is orbital commercial travel.
The planes are to expansive to build and operate. The concord couldn't achieve these times and it cost thousands of dollars per ticket. Supersonic flight is more dangerous and consumes an enormous amount of fuel. The cost/benefit is very unappealing and the FAA has very strict laws about supersonic flight over populated areas and at certain altitudes. it would be possible but you would have to go into orbit. if you did fly that fast through the air the sonic boom would break every ones windows in there house along your flight path. don't give up on your thinking. someday it may be possible. people that think radically have always been the ones to drastically change are way of life. good luck
Planes that travel that fast are many decades into the future. They probably wont resemble the aircraft of today because the best way to achieve travel speeds on that scale is to leave the atmosphere and come down again. That way most of the high speed portion of the flight takes place in thinner and thinner air as speed builds up. That is called ballistic or sub-orbital flight. Just as SPACESHIP ONE entered "space" but didn't go into orbit. Before any large vehicle capable of carrying the amount of passengers that airliners do today, the technology involved will have to advance and come together over many decades before it is possible.
Hypersonic time's....Eventually in this century, when I don't know. But when you do get there that fast pal, still expect to be sitting in a holding pattern!
